Pay your SAIL dues; re-join for 2009: SAIL memberships are valid only for a
calendar year. If you haven't paid your 2009 dues, you're not a member now. Adults, go
here to see a
printable membership form which you can fill out and mail in with your check. Juniors, your form is
here. Membership in SAIL helps the sport of sailing in the Rocky Mountain region and gives you
individual benefits too. SAIL's revenue stream is membership dues.
PHRF: SAIL PHRF certificates also expire on Dec. 31 and
need to be renewed each year. The fee is $5 (with SAIL membership, $20 without).
The fee just covers SAIL's cost to administer the PHRF system.

include winter-seminarsw.htm SAIL Winter Sailing Seminars: Once again it’s time for the SAIL Winter
Sailing Seminars! We have events planned for February, March, and April so please take a
look at what’s planned and join us. All of the events are free to SAIL members but if you are
not a member you can join at the event for just $15.
The first seminar for 2009, on Wednesday, February 11th featured the incredible
Tom Downing explaining & clarifying the 2009 changes to the Racing Rules of Sailing.
The room was full of racers looking for that extra edge in their first race of 2009. The
event was upstairs at the original Brooklyn's located at 2644 W. Colfax in Denver from 7:00
until 9:00 PM. Most came at 6:00 PM for dinner & drinks and a chance to visit with sailors
from the area clubs.
Rather than have a seminar in March, SAIL will host an Open House for the US Sailing Spring
Meeting that is being held in Denver. The event will be on Friday, March 27th
at the Stapleton Doubletree Hotel from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM. This is your chance to talk
with the folks that make all of the decisions at US Sailing and let them know what you like and
don’t like. There will be hors-devours and a cash bar so please plan on joining us at the
event. There will be more information later.
{The new Colorado Coconuts' movie on Rocky Mountain sailing will be premiered there.)
The second and last seminar will be on April 8th at Brooklyn’s.
A topic for the seminar is still up in the air so if you would like to see something specific,
please contact SAIL’s Vice Commodore, Matt Driscoll and let him know what needs to be covered.
You can email Matt at unionsailing@yahoo.com.
Again, the event will be upstairs at the original Brooklyn's located at 2644 W. Colfax in
Denver from 7:00 until 9:00 PM with seating for dinner starting at 6:00 PM.
If you need directions, Brooklyn’s phone number is (303) 572-3999

include CO-gov-cup.htm Colorado Governor's Cup was superbly hosted by DSA on September 13-14, 2008
at Cherry Creek Reservoir.
Saturday saw four races with enough wind to make spinnaker errors costly on the separate courses for dinghies & keelboats.
Sunday turned into a drifter, with no races started on either course.
45 boats competed, 20 keelboats & 25 dinghies.
Competition within some fleets and for the keelboat Governor's Cup trophy was close, being decided by
tie-breakers.
Tom Sweeney won the Keelboat Governor's Cup & David Spira
(again) won the Dinghy Governor's Cup.

Sailor goes overboard, drowns: On May 23,
2008 Bob Snare,
a respected sailor, was on the foredeck of his boat at Cherry Creek Res. when a sudden gust of high wind
caused him to go overboard. He was not wearing a personal flotation
device; when the crew got the boat back to him, he was no longer visible. His body was
recovered that evening. The coroner has ruled his death due to accidental
