Sunfish
Rocky Mountain Fleet

Come, join our Rocky Mountain Sunfish Fleet. We're getting it active
again after years of hibernation.
We have two regattas planned.
- Southwest Regionals, at the Aspen Open on July 18-19, 2009 to be held at Ruedi Reservoir.
- Colorado Sunfish Championship, at Bow Mar YC.
Paul Magnani is our Fleet Captain. You can reach him at

Fun, Affordable, Simple, Safe

For learning to sail, for just messing around on the water, or for
full-on competition -- the Sunfish is a great sailboat. It reduces sailing
to its simplest aspects.
- Fun: The Sunfish is a responsive but
stable boat. Simplicity of controls allows concentrating on the fun. Designed as a
single-handed boat, it easily accommodates two adults.
- Affordable: The Sunfish is a low-cost boat. Small size
(<14') and one sail keep costs down. New boats cost less than $4,000 and
good used boats can be had for less than $1,000.
- Simple: A Sunfish sailor needs only two basic controls --
the tiller to steer and the mainsheet to control the sail.
- Safe: Safety was the primary principle of the original designers.
Because of its safety -- it's virtually unsinkable -- the boat has been used to teach sailing since it was designed in 1951
by Alexander Bryan and Cortland Heyniger. The small, self-bailing
cockpit resists swamping.
Hall-of-Famer
These reasons were why the Sunfish was one of the first boats inducted into the
American Sailboat Hall of Fame.

Most popular sailboat ever built.
The sunfish is the most popular recreational sailboat in
history. It is so enjoyed due to its classic design, unmatched
stability and sailing ease.
Owners appreciate the lightweight hull that two people can easily load on top of a car
making sailing trips a breeze. The ultra-durable construction ensures years of maintenance
free enjoyment. The convenient storage in the back of the cockpit is
ideal for extra gear or a cooler.
Patented kick-up rudder makes beach launches, landings and shallow-water sailing effortless.
It has a self-bailing cockpit and its lateen rigged sail automatically de-powers
when hit by a gust of wind.
The mainsheet is the only control line that you need to enjoy the simple pleasures of sailing
a Sunfish.
Just load it on the car and go.
Get Ready to Race.
